Jay Street Video Games : Consoles : PlayStation 3

The third video game console developed by Sony. The PlayStation 3 (PS3) offers unmatched graphics and an enormous storage medium provided by Blu-Ray discs.

The PS3 offers Blue Tooth connectivity for it's accessories assuring a link with little to no interference. A wireless modem is built into all variations of the console equipped with a hard drive larger than 20GB. It also has extensive multimedia capabilities including a high-quality Blu-Ray disc player. All PS3 controllers have built in lithium power supplies that can be charged with a USB - MiniUSB cord.

There have been several variations of the PlayStation 3. Most of the console differences are noted by the size of their hard drive although the number of USB ports also varies. The color of the trim varied on models with different sized hard drives and some models offer a small door to cover up flash card readers.

20GB This model does not come with a built in wireless modem but was packaged with an ethernet cable. It is equipped with 4 USB ports and is backwards compatible. This model came with a SixAxis controller and composite cables.

60GB This model is distinct because of it's chrome trim. It has a built in wireless modem and a Flash Card Reader. It also has 4 USB ports, is backwards compatible and was packaged with a SixAxis controller.

80GB This model is identical to the 60GB apart from its hard drive.

40GB Slim A physically smaller version of the console was designed. This version is not backwards compatible and has only 2 USB Ports.

A second 40GB Slim was released with a DualShock 3 controller instead of the SixAxis and came in Gunmetal Grey instead of Piano Black.

An 80GB and a 160GB console were made after the 40GB Slim in the console's original Piano Black finish but took less power.

The Slim console was later released only in Matte Black with a 120GB and 250GB hard drive.
