Xbox was Microsoft's first attempt at making a video game console. At the time of it's unveiling the Sega Dreamcast was already fading and the Playstation 2 was just hitting stores in Japan, not having yet made it to North America. Microsoft's greatest marketing strategy would turn out to be acquiring Bungie and selecting Halo: Combat Evolved as a launch title.
Xbox also introduced Xbox Live. An online delivery service for sharing digital media and playing online games. Xbox was not the first console to come equipped with a modem, but Xbox Live was immensely popular and service continued until 2010.
